Watsonville Public Library has been very fortunate to have been the recipient of various grants that have enabled us to provide additional services, connect with our community, preserve history, and bring new technology to our community.

Funding has been provided by California Humanities and the National Endowment for the Humanities as part of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021.
Previous Grants
♦ Library Innovation Lab, 2018Exploring new ways of engaging Immigrant Communities through Public Humanities Programming. Funding made by California Humanities.
♦ Mental Health Initiative, 2016
The California State Library with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services provided funding and training for a library staff members to become a certified Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) instructors, and to then train and certify library staff members in MHFA.

♦ Latino Americans: 500 Years of History, 2015
The National Endowment for the Humanities & the American Library Association awarded grants for this project that included many components - including stories compiled and shared by local residents through film, print, and on the library web site.
♦ California Reads: War Comes Home, 2014
Cal Humanities in Partnership with California Center for the Book, supported in part by the National Endowment for the Humanities and the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services awarded grants on the topic of veterans. The library hosted 19 public programs in collaboration with Santa Cruz Libraries, including book discussions, film screenings, poetry readings, author presentations, and workshops.
♦ California Reads: Searching for Democracy, 2012
Cal Humanities - Watsonville Reads: Farewell to Manzanar. From March-May, 2012 Watsonville Public Library hosted a series of reading and discussion programs on Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston & James Huston’s memoir with Project Scholar, Dr. Pedro Castillo.
♦ California Civil Liberties Public Education: An American Story, 2011
California State Library awarded grants on the topic of WWII Stories of the Tragedy and Triumph of Our Japanese-American Community During Wartime. The library created a film that was produced with support services provided by Media Arts Center San Diego and featuring 21 local residents stories from that time. The film is available on our web site.
♦ California of the Past Digital Storytelling, 2010
The California State Library with support from the Institute of Museum and Library Services awarded a grant for participants to share stories of stories of agriculture from families in the Pajaro Valley. A series of films was created and is available for viewing on the library web site.
♦ Let's Talk About It: Jewish Literature, 2008
American Library Association, Public Programs Office: From September–December, 2008 Watsonville Public Library hosted a five-part book discussion on the theme, “Demons, Golems, and Dybbuks” with Project Scholar, Dr. Murray Baumgarten.
