[ARCHIVED] City & Watsonville Wetlands Watch Partner on Slough Restoration Projects

The City of Watsonville and Watsonville Wetlands Watch partnered on a pair of State grants to restore portions of Struve Slough above and below Main Street.  One grant is from the California Department of Parks and Recreation for $29,722.50 and the other is from the California Natural Resources Agency for $40,500.00.  Both projects involve removing non-native plants and replacing them with native plants grown by Wetlands Watch at their Fitz Wetlands Education Resource Center on the Pajaro Valley High School campus.

The projects began work in 2015 and will be completed this year.  Work at this time involves maintaining the native plant installations.  You are welcome to join Wetlands Watch for a Restoration work day on Saturday, June 24, 2017 where volunteers will spend the morning restoring native plants at various locations within the slough system.

Visit the Watsonville Wetlands Watch website for further information.
