[ARCHIVED] July is Smart Irrigation Month

Water Smart Landscaping

The City of Watsonville Water District recognizes July as Smart Irrigation Month, as irrigation water-use typically peaks. It's the perfect time to reduce landscape water needs. Please check out our resources, rebates and tips for Smart Irrigation!

The City of Watsonville generously supports water conservation by providing free lawn consultation and lawn replacement rebate resources for businesses and residents alike who want to help us meet our water conservation goals while saving money.

  • Free Water Consultation (PDF): trained staff will visit your home or business to evaluate your landscape and indoor water use. They will make specific recommendations tailored to your needs while providing incentives and rebates for modifications.
  • Lawn Replacement Rebate (PDF): The City of Watsonville offers a $0.75 per square foot rebate for customers to replace high water use lawns with drought-tolerant, permeable landscaping. Interested customers are eligible for a replacement rebate of up to $500 for residents and $1,000 for multi-family, commercial or institutional customers. Coupled with the State of California rebate, customers may receive up to $2 per square foot for lawn replacement.

The Pajaro Valley Water Management Agency provides Rainwater Catchment and Graywater Rebates:

  • Rainwater Catchment System Rebate Program: PVWMA offers a variety of rebates to residential customers that install the following types of rain catchment systems: rain barrels with a storage capacity of 50 up to 100 gallons and larger cisterns or tanks with a storage capacity of 100 to 3,000 gallons. Rainwater may only be used for irrigation and other non-potable uses. Click here to see the rebate form (PDF).
  • Graywater Rebate Program: The Agency now offers a $100 rebate for laundry to landscape graywater installations. Click here see the rebate form (PDF).

The City of Watsonville is a proud partner in the Water Conservation Coalition of Santa Cruz County, collectively offering water-saving resources on a regional scale.
