The Planning Commission has unanimously recommended that the City Council adopt the Downtown Watsonville Specific Plan (DWSP) during its October 10 council meeting.
Begun in 2019, this Plan was developed with extensive input from a broad range of stakeholders which included residents, business owners, workers, property owners, Caltrans, and representatives of community associations.
The DWSP will provide clear policies, development standards, and a vision to developers, property owners, City staff, and decision-makers to guide land use decisions, infrastructure improvements, design, and economic development activities in the project area.
This plan would bring many benefits to help revitalize downtown, including housing, retail entertainment, higher-density mixed-use residential projects, increased civic and cultural activities, pedestrian safety and comfort, and enhanced bicycle infrastructure.
