[ARCHIVED] Food for Fines

Food for Fines

Do you have fines on your library account?

For every can of food donated = $1 of overdue fines will be waived. This does not apply to lost items or other types of fines.

You can eliminate your overdue fines and fight hunger at the same time! For more than twenty-five years the Watsonville Public Library and the Freedom Branch Library have served as drop sites for the Second Harvest Food Bank’s Holiday Food Drive. The public has responded generously by donating nearly more than 50,000 pounds of food at the libraries in lieu of overdue fines. Approximately $1,000 was forgiven in overdue fines last year and 2,500 pounds were collected as a result of the Food for Fines Drive.

You can bring in ONE CAN of food for EACH DOLLAR of overdue fines at either location. All food donations will be given to the Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution.
