Construction or Cranes near the Airport

Proposed Construction or Erecting a Crane near the Airport?

Notification of proposed construction or crane erection near the Municipal Airport allows the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and airport operations to identify potential aeronautical hazards.

Before planning any construction or erecting any crane, mobile or otherwise, please read the information below to see if your project meets any of the criteria requisite to filing a FAA Form 7460-1.

For new construction and/or construction using cranes within close proximity to Watsonville Municipal Airport, please use the following information to submit an FAA Form 7460-1, Notice of Proposed Construction or Alteration, prior to construction.

Use the Notice Criteria Tool to enter information on any potential obstructions or potential height increases. Please note this process may take up to 90 days.  If you require assistance please contact the Municipal Airport.

An FAA Form 7460-1 is required if ANY of the following criteria are met:

  • Any construction or alteration within three miles of Watsonville Municipal Airport which exceeds a 40:1 slope from any point on the nearest runway
  • Any construction or alteration exceeding 200 feet above ground level within three miles of the airport
  • Any construction or alteration actually located on the airport, regardless of height or location
  • When requested by the FAA

At least 48 hours prior to Crane erection contact Municipal Airport Operations at (831) 768-3585 as a NOTAM (Notices to Air Missions)  issuance is an airport policy.

If you have additional questions, please contact Airport Management at (831) 768-3575.
