As we approach the festive season, it is crucial to address the serious concerns surrounding illegal fireworks. While fireworks can bring joy and excitement, unauthorized and illegal fireworks pose significant risks to our community, including fire hazards, injuries, and disturbances to pets and residents.

Illegal fireworks can be reported through our Watsonville Police Department mobile app or by calling 831-471-1151.

Please have the following information ready: location, type of fireworks (ground or aerial), and whether they pose a hazard. Only call 9-1-1 if the fireworks pose a danger.

The Watsonville Police Department will have zero tolerance for illegal fireworks, and those caught will be fined $1,000 per violation.

Remember:
🚫 If it shoots up into the sky and explodes, it’s illegal.

🚫 If it makes a loud, explosive sound, it’s illegal.

🚫 If it doesn’t have the “Safe and Sane” seal from the California State Fire Marshal, it’s illegal.

Only Safe and Sane fireworks are allowed in our City this Fourth of July.

Starting July 1, fireworks can be purchased from authorized vendors in Watsonville. Practice the following safety tips when using Safe and Sane fireworks:

  •  Always read directions
  • Have an adult present
  • Only use fireworks outdoors
  • Never use fireworks near dry grass or flammable materials
  • Light one firework at a time
  • Have a bucket of water and a hose nearby
  • Sweep up your area after using fireworks

The 4th of July can be stressful for our furry friends. Ensure your pet's ID tags and microchip information are up to date, keep your pets inside, set up a quiet, comfortable area indoors with their favorite toys and blankets, and use calming music or white noise to help drown out the sound of fireworks.

Together, let's ensure a safe and enjoyable celebration for all.
