[ARCHIVED] Keep Students Safe as They Return to School

Children on school campus running up school steps

As students across Watsonville prepare to head back to school, the City urges all drivers to take extra care when navigating local streets. With increased foot and vehicle traffic near school campuses, it’s more important than ever to prioritize safety and protect our youngest residents.

Whether you’re commuting to work, running errands, or dropping off your own children, staying alert and following school zone rules can make a life-saving difference.

The City of Watsonville is reminding the community to follow these important safety tips:

  • Drive attentively and remain on the lookout for students walking or biking to school.
  • Respect all school safety zones and obey posted speed limits, especially during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up times.
  • Use caution around school buses. Slow down when you see flashing red lights and never pass a stopped bus to let children board or exit.
  • Always follow the instructions of crossing guards. They are there to help students cross safely and ensure orderly traffic flows.

Let’s all do our part to ensure students return to school safely. A few extra seconds of caution can prevent a lifetime of regret.
