[ARCHIVED] How to prepare for the next storm

preparing for the next storm

Heavy rain is expected to hit Southern Santa Cruz County Wednesday afternoon through Thursday.


Residents should prepare for potential flooding AND evacuations. Our City crews have been working tirelessly to clear flood channels and storm drains free from debris and increased street sweeping to prepare our roads.


Here’s how you can prepare: 


PREPARE

• Keep your property’s drainage clear

• Develop an emergency/evacuation plan

• Prepare emergency supplies

• Download the Watsonville Police Department App to get notifications

• Sign up for “Code Red” emergency phone notifications at: www.scr911.org


PROTECT

• Clean leaves and debris off of storm drains

• Report clogged storm drains or significant flooding in your area to 831-768-3133

• Sandbag areas where water could enter your home


PAY ATTENTION

• Avoid driving. Do not drive through flooded streets

• Stay weather aware before and during storms. Watch local news or follow authoritative sources on social media, including the National Weather Service

• Areas next to the city’s creeks and the Pajaro River are flood hazard areas

Se espera que fuertes lluvias azoten el sur del Condado de Santa Cruz desde el miércoles por la tarde hasta el jueves.


Residentes deben prepararse para posibles inundaciones y evacuaciones. Nuestros equipos de la Ciudad han estado trabajando incansablemente para despejar los canales de inundación y los desagües pluviales de escombros y han aumentado el barrido de calles para preparar nuestras carreteras.


Así es como se puede preparar:


PREPÁRESE

• Mantenga los desagües en su propiedad limpios

• Tenga un plan emergencia y evacuación
