[ARCHIVED] Self-serve sandbag stations available to Watsonville residents

Sandbag stations web template

With the rainy season already underway, the City of Watsonville is providing limited quantities of sandbags for free to Watsonville residents at the two self-serve locations below:

o    Joyce McKenzie Park, 500 Joyce Drive

o    Fire Station 1, 115 2nd Street

Consider setting up your sandbags in advance and keeping them in place until the end of the rainy season.

Filling and stacking sandbags is easier and more efficient when you have a team of people working together. So, make sure to bring along a friend to help.

Remember to wear gloves to prevent blisters and splinters. Fill your sandbags two-thirds of the way to make carrying and stacking easier. Overfilled bags leave gaps, allowing water to seep through.

Make sure to stagger the bags, much like laying bricks; this will create a stronger barrier and prevent the bags from tipping over. Tamp the bags down to form a tight seal and regularly monitor the water level and the condition of your sandbags.

o    Parque Joyce McKenzie, 500 Joyce Drive
