Traffic and Road Safety

City of Watsonville Traffic Calming Solutions

The City of Watsonville recognizes the need to improve safety on our streets through collaborative work with its own departments, partner organizations, and the public. Below are some of the solutions we are implementing and how you can get involved.

Vision Zero & The Vision Zero Taskforce

The Watsonville Vision Zero (VZ) Taskforce pursues the goal to achieve Vision Zero — eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries among all road users while increasing safe, healthy, equitable mobility. They work to achieve this goal by developing long-term solutions through policy influence and changes.

The Watsonville Vision Zero Taskforce is comprised of:

Neighborhood Traffic Management Plan (NTMP)

The Neighborhood Traffic Management Plan is a tool that was developed to empower residents to request traffic improvements in their own neighborhoods. The plan outlines the process through which improvements are requested by neighborhood groups, evaluated by the City, and how solutions are selected and implemented in response to the requests.

Projects resulting from a request through the NTMP are generally implemented in the short to medium term but may take longer if the solutions are to be included in larger planned future projects.

Traffic Advisory Committee

The Traffic Advisory Committee (TAC) is comprised of residents who attend our quarterly Traffic Advisory Meetings. Meeting attendees have the opportunity to learn about current traffic projects directly from our Engineers and Public Works Staff, make traffic-improvement suggestions and brainstorm traffic improvement solutions for the City at large.

TAC meetings are public, and we encourage residents from all seven districts to attend and collaborate with City staff to improve traffic conditions across the entire City.
